Annual Reports

What an exciting year 2009 was for AFTD! We awarded more research dollars than ever before, including support for the first FTD postdoctoral fellowship. We worked with more caregivers and patients than ever before through the Helpline, email, website, and a growing number of support groups. Our staff expanded from three part-time to four full-time positions to develop more programs to meet the needs of our families. AFTD co-sponsored twice the number of regional conferences as in any previous year, we started a Caregiver Respite Grant program, and created a telephone support group dedicated to the special needs of parents caring for a spouse with FTD who also have school-aged children. We turned a mistake on Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s blog into an opportunity to raise awareness about FTD, with the result that AFTD and one of our families were featured on CNN. We also created our first strategic plan, which recommitted us to the full breath of our mission, crafted a vision, and charted a course for the next few years.

Revenue for the year ending December 31, 2009 totaled $730,153, the vast majority of which came from individual donations. Expenditures totalled $706,132, 61% of which was spent on basic research and drug discovery research. Management and Fundraising expenses amounted to 13% of all expenditures.
