Upcoming Events

George F. Sidoris Memorial Golf Outing

The George F. Sidoris Memorial Golf Outing to Benefit AFTD will be held on Saturday, September 4, at the Lost Nation Golf Course, 38890 Hodgson Rd., in Willoughby, Ohio. Proceeds from this event will help fund FTD biomarker research; an added bonus is a very generous partnership with AFTD donors The Danis Family and the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation, which is matching AFTD fundraising efforts in the area of drug discovery 3:1 (learn more about this and biomarker research on page 5 of the Summer 2010 issue of the AFTD newsletter here). The cost to participate in the golf outing is $85 per person and includes green fees, cart, lunch and dinner. Registration and lunch will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a shotgun start at 2 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. For additional information, email csidoris@aol.com or call 702-595-8609. For a registration form, go to George F. Sidoris Memorial Golf Outing.

7th International Conference on FTD

The 7th International Conference on Frontotemporal Dementias is set for Wednesday, October 6, through Friday, October 8, in Indianapolis. Researchers from around the world will discuss emerging discoveries in the science and medicine of FTD. The first day will also feature a program for caregivers on FTD diagnosis, medical management, legal and financial issues, and support services. At day’s end, a dinner, sponsored by AFTD at the Eiteljorg Museum, will enable caregivers to mingle informally with each other and with researchers.

The Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, the Courtyard Indianapolis at the Capitol, and the Fairfield Inn and Suites are offering discounted rates on hotel rooms for attendees of the International Conference. The Indianapolis Marriott Downtown is hosting the conference; the Courtyard Indianapolis at the Capitol and the Fairfield Inn and Suites are about one block away.

Travel Grants for Caregivers

The Association for Frontotemporal Dementias offers financial assistance for caregivers interested in attending caregiver conferences. Travel grants may be used to defray the cost of traveling, lodging, conference fees and/or care for a loved one with FTD so that caregivers can attend.
